Volunteer Opportunities

HRWA works with numerous schools throughout the Herring Run Watershed. Potential student volunteer activities include one-time events such as...

  • planting trees on school grounds or in local parks or greenways
  • collecting native seeds for Growing Native
  • mulching and watering recently planted trees
  • building and installing rain barrels
  • stenciling storm drains
  • pulling weeds and picking up trash along local streams

Or long-term conservation activities such as...

  • building and maintaining a school rain garden
  • managing a Growing Native Grow Out Station
  • adopting a stream and monitoring its chemical, physical, and biological health

We are always looking for new school partnerships and new activities to meet your curricular and service-learning needs, so please don't hesitate to contact us.

Becoming a Green School

Are you interested in becoming a Green School? We can help! Many of the above projects can help you meet the Green School requirements. HRWA staff can also work with you to develop additional projects to help your school save water and energy, reduce waste, and lower operating expenses.
